Barry Adams

Operations Manager.

After becoming bored of education, falling foul of the RAF silver spoon politics and opting to travel rather than indulge in a ‘just for the fun of it’ spell at university, Barry has emerged into the world of agencies and digital media to be specific from no-where. Following the spell of travelling and interim appointments to fuel the traveling tendencies, Barry commenced his career within the private sector working within a small business improvement team testing and implementing a companywide CRM system – this rapidly matured into further business improvement projects, improving processes and efficiencies of the companies contact centres. It was here that exposure to technology and the power of web based technologies in particular began carving the path that has led Barry to Standout.

After 5 years, I decided to jump from the comfort of the private sector and straight into the digital arm of the Daily Mail as an Account Manager to be quickly superseded to Digital Project Management role and solely responsible for managing all of the website developments sold into a range of car dealerships across the UK, including that of the Perry’s group. In addition I held responsibility for the implementation for internal software implementations to improve the efficiencies of handling the large client base.

Following redundancy I under took a role with a Milton Keynes based digital agency and software development house as Digital Project Manager working for large clients such as The Institute of Chartered Accountants, Capital Shopping Centres, Gatwick airport to name but a few.

Here I was fortunate enough to really exploit that interest of web based technologies and software which emerged some 7 years earlier, not only via web-site development, but also touchscreen and way-finding technology alongside my portrait piece of scoping, creating the specification and project managing through the UKs first full service iPhone app for the regional shopping destination thecentre:mk; consequently following this up with further and more advanced app services for Lakeside, Harlequin and Metrocentre shopping centres.

However it was the undercover day to day operational activities which I ran in parallel with the digital project management tasks for this agency which caught Dan’s eye, invariably bringing me to Standout as the Operations Manager.

This role is becoming vital to Standout as it grows and develops securing itself as benchmark within the industry.

I create that conduit between the ‘Thinking’ team and the Online / Offline teams scheduling all of the work, pushing through to completion. Finding solutions to resource and scheduling clashes, whilst working with the teams to find new innovative ways to refine our already clinical internal processes to add that little bit of extra value to our client base and the products we produce for them.

What is the best thing about working at Standout?

Becoming part of a refined,  driven team that really prides itself on quality innovative work.  As this team is now ready to embark on its next stages of its life cycle, the imminent future of refinement, growth and development is going to be an exciting journey!

What is your favourite time of year, and why?

Without a doubt it has to be Summer. Long warm evenings allowing for plenty of playtime after a busy day in camp Standout. It also allows my body to repair itself from the beating I give it during the rugby season – one day I may give it up and save myself some hassle…..but that would be boring.

If you could visit any country, where would it be, and why?

New Zealand. It’s a country I fell in love with and will return to hopefully on a permanent basis soon, purely for its fresh unadulterated countryside, views and laid back nature – wind back the UK clock by 30 years and you have New Zealand, half day Wednesday trading and all.
