There’s nothing better than getting the time to sit down and watch a movie, whether it’s at the cinema or in the comfort of your own home, and for me the enjoyment begins before the film, when seeing the movie company logos at the beginning.
These are logos, but so much more, these are logos that move, have iconic music and are literally brought to life. These are logos in the biggest form, and for me, they do their job brilliantly. There is a definite theme amongst these movie idents, alot of them use a dramatic sky with the viewer being taken through clouds before the logo develops, all giving the sense of size and power, which I would imagine is exactly how a movie company wants to be seen.
What I have also noticed over recent years is how these logos are being adapted or customised for the movie they are used on. A particular company who does this a lot is Warner Brothers, who adopt a certain colour palette for a film to apply to their logo, such as ‘The Matrix’ or ‘Batman Begins’ and more recently, ‘Inception’, this way the mood for the film is cleverly set, right from this point.
It’s definitely worth looking out for these at the beginning of films as I imagine they are quite often taken for granted and overlooked, but without them movies simply wouldn’t be the same.
