YouTube and Google server Problems

YouTube and Google have been suffering server problems over the past week (starting 14th July) on a global scale. The problem seems to be working its way around the globe country by country and last week, hit the UK.

YouTube and Google have done little to dispel any rumours circulating from mass hacks to a more logical system upgrade. YouTube has finally put out a public comment, “We are in maintaince mode right now.  This happens about once a month. Everything will be find in about 4 hours”. Unfortunately for Youtube this was 6 hours ago, doing little to dispel the rumours and bad spelling.  Whatever the problem like the new Iphone 4 from Apple, do not ignore your customer base and protect your Brand. To add insult to injury there is even a posting on Youtube of a picture of the server error message, it runs for two minutes and has had 52 000 hits, great PR. Of course Tweets are flying and blogs jumping on the Band Wagon. A perfect opportunity to get your blog posting out and onto page 1 for YouTube and Google. Other file sharing sites and video sites have already placed Google ads attracting viewers to their sites using Google adwords, so clearly not a 4 hour fix. From an SEO perspective, it’s moments like these that you have to jump. Blogs – get a blog posting out as soon as you notice, capitalise on the situation and get your site listed page 1 for that term. Google adwords -  if a competitor’s site goes down, get your ad live and drawing traffic, the ad can be removed when the site goes live again.

There are very few opportunities within SEO to be able to rank page 1 so quickly, be aware of your online competition, be aware of your industries online activities and be ready to react.
